Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Danica Grujičić held a meeting with the Ambassador of Japan in Belgrade, Takahiko Katsumata, at the Palace of Serbia.
In a friendly conversation, it was once again concluded that the Republic of Serbia and Japan have excellent cooperation in the field of healthcare. The Government of Japan has supported more than 100 projects in Serbia within the program for the basic needs of the population (grass-root projects) and to date the total value of this program has reached around 7.6 million euros. The projects were mostly implemented in the health, education and social care sector, and on average they amount to around 60,000 euros per project.
Minister Grujičić and Ambassador Katsumata agreed that the traditionally good cooperation in the upcoming period should be improve even more, first of all, by support in strengthening administrative capacities and training of professional staff for the implementation of projects financed by the Government of Japan.
Further cooperation with Japan could also take place in the field of control of chronic non-communicable diseases (cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer), and through cooperation, projects could be implemented that strengthen diagnostic centers, improve systems for early detection of diseases, as well as procurement projects equipment, construction or reconstruction of existing facilities for those purposes.
