Minister Lončar informed Commissioner Várhelyi about the general situation in Serbia, as well as the results achieved in the improvement of Serbia's health system. The two interlocutors agreed that Serbia, even though a candidate country, can and must receive more solid assistance from the EU in the reforms it is implementing, especially bearing in mind that Serbian healthcare is already at such a level that it can be an equal partner to the EU.

Speaking on this issue, Commissioner Várhelyi pointed out to Minister Lončar that he was seriously counting on Serbia’s support when it comes to the production of medicines and vaccines for the entire EU market.

Commissioner Várhelyi accepted Minister Lončar's invitation to visit Serbia as soon as possible and see for himself the level of Serbian healthcare quality. Incidentally, Commissioner Várhelyi was particularly interested in the progress of the construction works on the Tiršova 2 children’s clinic, a project that he pointed out had been particularly close to his heart when he had held his previous position.

Minister Lončar is on a one-day visit to Brussels at the personal invitation of Commissioner Várhelyi. Today's meeting was attended by representatives of the WHO Regional Office for Europe and Serbia, as well as our ambassador to the EU, Danijel Apostolović.
