At the 74th World Health Organization’s (WHO) Regional Committee’s session, which is being held from 29 to 31 October in Copenhagen, the Republic of Serbia has been elected member of the WHO Executive Board, by a majority of the 53 WHO Europe member states.
Minister Lončar pointed out that this is the success of all citizens of Serbia, and another confirmation that our health system’s progress has been internationally recognised and acknowledged.
"A major success for our healthcare, our citizens and our country." Health knows no borders, and together we must make a full contribution to the well-being and health of the citizens," said Lončar.
The WHO Executive Board for Europe has 8 members who are elected for a period of three years. The Executive Board’s main function is to implement the World Health Assembly’s decisions and policies, advise and facilitate its work. In addition to the candidacy of the Republic of Serbia, representatives from Kazakhstan and Armenia also applied for a seat on the WHO Executive Board. The importance of the Republic of Serbia delegation’s participation is also reflected in the fact that the top representatives of the of the European region countries’ health systems and other international organizations participate in this meeting, which represents a unique opportunity for numerous top-level bilateral meetings.
